Post-Jam Update

I have never done one of these before, so here goes.  The jam was a blast, and I am very proud of what I posted.  That said, there is always room for improvement, and I have received a fair bit of feedback.  I'll see about setting up a proper title image for the game, too!  I have been working on a separate build and now that the jam is over, I can get it ready to roll out,  Among these updates are some new artwork for the ships, including some normal maps that will allow for some fancy lighting effects!  I will be publishing these changes once I have a few more issues ironed out.  The specifics are below.

I have revised the tutorial to work more with step-by-step objectives, rather than the wall of text.  With the pressure of the timeline, that was the only real option I had.  I will be very glad to make this a more interactive experience, rather than the game of memory that it currently encourages.  The new tutorial will take more time, letting you get used to the controls before heading out into the rest of the game.

I had to cut a number of features, including friendly fighters, other ships to fight or rescue, additional upgrades and an actual level / storyline to play through.  I will be implementing these missing features as time goes on.

The tutorial, level design and revised fighters (friendly and enemy) will be the first major points that I tackle.  I had to break the enemy AI in order to get friendlies figured out.  Once they are up and running, I will publish the update with the new art, revised tutorial, hopefully-smarter-fighters and an actual level.

Further updates will see additional levels, the other ship types and a couple of other things I had to leave behind.  I'll keep my ear to the ground as far as feedback, too!  There is no content as of this post, but I wanted to let anyone who's listening know what I'm up to.

Have fun and keep jammin'!
